District Arts Showcase for MPSD being held Tuesday night

(WTOK) – Art made by students from across the Meridian Public School District will be on display Tuesday night at the District Arts Showcase.“This is absolutely a free event,” says Clair Huff, the arts coordinator with MPSD.“It starts at 6 p.m.in the Grand Lobby of the Riley Center, the performing arts showcase will start at 6:30 in the historic theater, and we are inviting our students, our parents, teachers, as well as our community.” There will also be performances by bands, choirs, and drama groups.Students from all of the schools within the district will be participating. “It’s a wonderful opportunity first of all to showcase the work that our students and teachers have done in the arts this year,” Huff says.“It’s also a wonderful opportunity for Meridian Public Schools to show our community the journey we are taking into using the arts in the classroom.” Two Meridian High School students will emcee the event.
“There will be video highlights of arts integration so the audience will get to see teachers and students who are using the arts in their English, math, science, and social studies classes,” Huff explains. Organizers say they are thankful for all those involved in making Tuesday night possible.“We’re also going to be highlighting our sponsors, those that have provided funding for Any Given Child, we’re going to be sure and thank them tomorrow night, we want them to see the work that the students are doing,” Huff says. To recap, the District Arts Showcase starts at 6 p.m. at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian.
