Native American Arts Auction Benefits Local Museum

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Museum of Western Colorado partnered with RB Burnham and Company Trading Post to present a Native American Art Auction.

A room in the museum was filled with more than 250 art pieces, including rugs, pottery, baskets, jewelry, katsina dolls, and other native arts.The pieces were made available directly from Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni Artisans.A portion of the funds collected from the auction go back into the museum providing education on native American arts.Artist say this event is an opportunity to spread their work, while also educating the Grand Valley on Indian heritage.

District Arts Showcase for MPSD being held Tuesday night

(WTOK) – Art made by students from across the Meridian Public School District will be on display Tuesday night at the District Arts Showcase.“This is absolutely a free event,” says Clair Huff, the arts coordinator with MPSD.“It starts at 6 p.m.in the Grand Lobby of the Riley Center, the performing arts showcase will start at 6:30 in the historic theater, and we are inviting our students, our parents, teachers, as well as our community.” There will also be performances by bands, choirs, and drama groups.Students from all of the schools within the district will be participating. “It’s a wonderful opportunity first of all to showcase the work that our students and teachers have done in the arts this year,” Huff says.“It’s also a wonderful opportunity for Meridian Public Schools to show our community the journey we are taking into using the arts in the classroom.” Two Meridian High School students will emcee the event.
“There will be video highlights of arts integration so the audience will get to see teachers and students who are using the arts in their English, math, science, and social studies classes,” Huff explains. Organizers say they are thankful for all those involved in making Tuesday night possible.“We’re also going to be highlighting our sponsors, those that have provided funding for Any Given Child, we’re going to be sure and thank them tomorrow night, we want them to see the work that the students are doing,” Huff says. To recap, the District Arts Showcase starts at 6 p.m. at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian.

Chula Vista senior citizens rock the fashion runway

“Today’s fashion show is all about friendships,” said Mary Johnson with the community outreach team. “Friendships are just as important as taking Pauls Plaza, a senior living community.
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Senior citizens in Chula Vista lit up the runway at St. Paul’s Plaza, a senior living community.It was the center’s first fashion show and eight residents were transformed into models. Each had makeup, hair, and wardrobe provided thanks to Macy’s.“Today’s fashion show is all about friendships,” said Mary Johnson with the community outreach team. “Friendships are just as important as taking good care of yourself, exercising, and good nutrition.
As we get older friendships get even more important.”Ladies who modeled said the day made them feel special and confident.“A lot of people when they get to be our age don’t want to do anything different. But I still want to do different things!” said model and resident Nancy Curcio.St. Paul’s Plaza is an aging in place community, offering independent, assisted, and memory support.

UW-Milwaukee officer shot person outside Fine Arts Building, no students or employees hurt

(WITI) – A UWM police officer shot an individual outside the Fine Arts Building Tuesday morning. No students or employees were hurt or involved.The individual, who is not connected to UWM, was taken to the hospital.No UWM students or employees were injured in the incident.Officials have scheduled a noon news conference to provide a statement on this incident.Schools officials say the campus is open, although the area around the Fine Arts Building has been blocked off by police.Operations are normal.
