KARACHI: A positive shift in India’s public opinion with regard to Pakistan is worth noting. Undoubtedly, the gestures of goodwill by our leaders have paid off.

One can see the shift of sentiments through the response our government’s gestures received. Starting with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initial address at the start of his tenure, where he extended a hand of peace towards our neighbours, followed by the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor — both these actions were very well received by the Indian public sans Indian media and the Indian government of course.
The most recent act of releasing Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, followed by his declaration in favour of the professional and humane treatment he received from the Pakistani Armed Forces, has left a great impact on the Indian public yet again.Pakistan has always called for peace. However, India on numerous occasions has given an unwelcoming response to Pakistan’s peace gestures. Contrary to the opinion the public holds, the government remains adamant on provoking hostile sentiments among the masses.Internationally, the overall tide has changed in Pakistan’s favour due to the constant efforts and display of some exemplary diplomacy on our part. It is hoped that while the international community is appreciating Pakistan, it should reprimand India over its pro-war behaviour.
